Bridge House renamed Jude Court

Apartments in Jude Court, formerly known as Bridge House, on Mantle Road, are now on sale.

Developer L&Q says on their website:

A selection of one and two bedroom properties available through our part rent, part buy scheme and to rent through our UpToYou scheme. Show home open Saturday 15th January, by appointment only, contact us now to book your viewing.

The building sits on the western side of Brockley Station and its completion will also involve new commercial units opening at ground level, with the pavement reopened.

Oh dear, Jude is the patron saint of hopeless causes. Someone didn't think that name through....

Renamed because they took a sad place and made it better?

Perhaps with poetic licence but they do a reasonable job bigging up life in Brockley in the brochure.

... what a great place to live!

According to their brochure's map, Brockley is right next to Clapham, with none of that pesky Peckham stuff in the way.

A symphony of beige..... Mmmmm....

I had a look at the dimensions of the apartments in the brochure, certain that they'll be really tiny shoeboxes.

In shape, they are still shoeboxes, very narrow and long, as well as only being single-aspect. But the two-bedroom apartments are surprisingly big (at least the living room and 1st bedroom).

However, still will not touch these "modern" apartments with a bargepole! One Hyde Park... yes... because they are built to be habitable. These shared ownership and cram-them-in ones are not...

I had a look around the two bed flat the other day - being nosey - and it wasn't that bad. If you're struggling to get on the housing market it's not a bad option.

Can anyone buy these? Or do you have to be on a low income?

That's a great question, as I'd love to add one or two my buy to let portfolio.

You do realise that any fresh faced young person looking for a place to live will type 'Brockley' into google. BC nestles just after Wikepeadia., so best behavior anyone *combs hair*

I'd like to state, for any visitors to the site, that not everyone is as constantly anoyed as Lou and there are not 'too many' delis and gastro pubs. The East London Line is good....or terrible depending whether you want to spend your free time in the Kings Road.

Charlie are you joking? I very much doubt London & Quadrant Housing Association would be willing to sell their properties to buy-to-let landlords.

People are not supposed to sub let their coucil flats but they do.

London & quadrant seem to be buying up all sorts round here, including some of the Barratt flats on Loampit Vale (renaissance?), 80% of which, incidentally, are apparently now sold. Not bad for housing association properties; I hope they will look after them better than they have looked
after the Victorian flats elsewhere in the borough, which are falling into disrepair (and, at least in my limited experience of the flats near me, are not always inhabited by who they should be). I wish they would sell them on to someone who will look after them properly now that they have acquired all these new build properties.

Mortgage agreements usually require consent from the lender to sub-let but I understand this often doesn't happen.

I think Charlie was joking; what a corker eh? Hardly Hugh junior...

Jude the Obscure...one of the saddest novels ever too...

TV version was OK though. Kate Winslet got her kit off.

I agree with anon. Jude is a deeply depressing name - Jude the Obscure, Judas, etc. etc. What made them pick it?

Howson Road said...

Hey Jude, don't make it bad...

The many people round here whose little angels are called Jude won't thank you for pointing out all those negative associations!

Many people have children called Jude...?!
